General information about each term, not legal advice. Where a definition says how StampMitra uses a term, the linked page has the detail.
- Partner advocate
- An advocate enrolled with a State Bar Council who has been verified by StampMitra, has accepted the partner agreement and receives matching assignments through the portal. The partner advocate drafts, signs and delivers the work and is paid through the partner ledger. See For advocates.
- Legal notice
- A formal written communication from one party to another, usually sent through an advocate, that sets out a grievance or demand and what the sender expects the recipient to do. It is often sent before court proceedings begin. On StampMitra, partner advocates draft, sign and dispatch notices with proof of delivery. See Legal notices.
- Affidavit
- A written statement of facts that the person making it, called the deponent, confirms on oath or affirmation. It is usually printed on stamp paper where the purpose needs it and is attested by a notary or another authorised officer. Name change, address proof and gap year affidavits are common examples. See Affidavits.
- Notarisation
- The act of a notary attesting a document, for example by certifying that a signature or an oath was made before the notary, and recording the act in the notary's register. Notaries in India act under the Notaries Act, 1952. Notarisation by partner notaries is launching soon on StampMitra. See For notaries.
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
- The electronic equivalent of a signature, issued to an individual by a Certifying Authority licensed under the Information Technology Act, 2000. It ties the holder's identity to a key kept on a token. StampMitra partners sign with their own DSC inside the portal. See the DSC signing guide.
- Class 3 DSC
- The class of individual Digital Signature Certificate that involves the strictest identity checks before issue. StampMitra asks partners to hold a valid Class 3 DSC, because it is the certificate used to sign notices, drafts and review notes in the portal.
- Aadhaar eSign
- An online electronic signature service in which the signer authenticates with Aadhaar and the signature is created through an authorised eSign service provider, without a physical token. It is different from signing with a DSC on a token. Where eSign is offered on StampMitra: [eSign availability].
- e-Stamp
- An electronic way of paying stamp duty on a document instead of buying physical stamp paper. In many states e-stamp certificates are issued through authorised agencies, and the rules and amounts differ from state to state. StampMitra partners attach the stamp details recorded for the case when they sign agreements, deeds and notices.
- TDS on partner fees
- Tax deducted at source: the part of a partner's fee that StampMitra deducts and deposits with the tax authorities, as income tax law requires. The section and rate that apply are [TDS section and rate]. The ledger shows the deduction against every earning. See Earnings and payouts.
- Bar Council enrolment
- The entry of an advocate on the roll of a State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961, which gives the right to practise. The enrolment number, state and year appear on the enrolment certificate. StampMitra verifies these details before it creates a partner account. See Eligibility.
- Assignment
- An offer of a case that matches the services and states a partner has chosen. It appears in the assignments inbox with a response timer, and the partner accepts or declines it within the window set in the partner agreement: [Response window].
- Partner agreement
- The signed, versioned agreement between a partner and Bani Global Industries LLP that sets out scope, fees, taxes, payouts, service levels and confidentiality duties. Partners accept it during the onboarding checklist and accept it again when a new version is issued. See Partner agreement.
- Partner ledger
- The list in the portal that records every earning, adjustment and deduction for a partner, with a CSV export. Each payout has a statement, and a tax summary for the year is available to download.
